Rockford Central Driver Services
The normal Rockford Central address is:

However, the Central DMV temporarily closed for renovations beginning July 24, 2026. A temporary location opened next door at:

with service beginning July 27.
The temporary site was reported open:
Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Saturday, 7:30 a.m.-noon.
Because the duration of the renovation was not specified, the live Secretary of State facility listing should be checked before publishing the final address.

Driving in Rockford as a New Driver
Active East State Street Construction
IDOT began work April 20, 2026 on East State Street, Business U.S. 20, between Rockford College Entrance Drive and Fairview Avenue.
The $1.8 million project includes:
Pavement patching
Milling and resurfacing
Sidewalk updates
Signal improvements
Right-turn-lane widening.
IDOT expected the project to finish by the end of August, with day and night lane closures and much of the work occurring at night.
This is highly relevant current city content.
Major I-39 Reconstruction
IDOT's Rockford-area reconstruction program includes I-39 from Mulford Road to Harrison Avenue.
Current 2026 work includes reconstruction and adding lanes. The project began in spring 2026 and is scheduled to continue through fall 2028.
The broader project includes:
Widening I-39
Reconstructing interchanges
Bridge work
Additional lanes
Traffic shifts.
U.S. 20 and Mill Road
Another major 2026 project is widening U.S. 20 from four to six lanes from the I-39 interchange to east of the Kishwaukee River.
The $25.5 million project also includes:
New U.S. 20 bridges over the Kishwaukee River
Dedicated turn lanes at Mill Road
New signals
Realignment of a service road
Construction began May 1, 2026, with lane shifts expected.
Kishwaukee River Bridge Replacement
A separate I-39 Kishwaukee River bridge project is now in engineering. Early activities such as tree removal are scheduled for fall 2026, construction begins in spring 2027, and substantial completion is targeted for late fall 2029.
This should be described as upcoming work rather than active bridge reconstruction today.
Auburn Street and Local Construction
Rockford's municipal construction updates also identify continuing work on Auburn Street between Central Avenue and Main Street involving water-main and storm-sewer improvements with daily lane closures.
That gives the page useful downtown/west-side construction content beyond state highways.
